The Advanced Practice Placement (ADP) module offers a great opportunity for employers and postgraduate students to engage in mutually beneficial collaborations. This initiative significantly enhances the employability of our graduates, equipping them with a diverse range of skills and experiences that transcend traditional classroom learning.
Benefits of Placements for Students and Employers
One of the primary advantages of placing our students within your organisation is the practical exposure they receive. They get the chance to immerse themselves in real business environments, allowing them to demonstrate and further develop their skills and knowledge. By attending meetings, gathering market research, developing business solutions, or analysing financial data, students contribute actively to your organisation while enriching their own educational experience.
For employers, the benefits are equally compelling. By engaging with our students, you can gain fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that can help shape new ways of working. The placements also serve as an introduction to the future workforce, providing a unique opportunity to scout potential talent for your organisation.
We recognise that many companies have adopted hybrid working practices, especially in the wake of recent global events. Our students are adept at using online communication technologies and are well-prepared to adapt to both in-person and remote working environments. Whether your organisation operates fully on-site, remotely, or in a hybrid capacity, we can find a solution and have a student contribute effectively.
The placement programme is designed to be flexible and supportive, both for the students and the host organisations. Here are some key aspects of the programme:
Voluntary and Unpaid: Placements are offered on a voluntary basis, meaning there is no monetary cost to the host organisation. This arrangement ensures that the primary focus is on learning and development.
Support from Work-Related Learning Team: Throughout the placement, students receive robust support from our Work-Related Learning. This team ensures that the work undertaken by the students is relevant to their Master's degree, oversees the signing-off of necessary documentation, and monitors health and safety standards.
Placement Logs: Students maintain a fortnightly work placement log, which needs to be signed off by the placement provider. This log helps track their activities and progress, ensuring alignment with their learning objectives.
Supervision and Mentoring: While constant supervision is not required, we do ask that placement providers offer guidance and mentorship as needed. This support can greatly enhance the student’s learning experience and their ability to contribute meaningfully to your organisation.
